The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a warning after two weight-loss products sold online were found to contain sibutramine, a banned appetite suppressant linked to severe heart and mental health risks.
The products – “Choc-Inch (Prime Dark Chocolate)”, imported from Canada, and “Fabulous Goals” from Malaysia – were marketed as fat-burning and metabolism-boosting supplements. SFA said tests confirmed the presence of sibutramine, which has been prohibited in Singapore since 2010 due to risks of heart attack, stroke, psychosis and seizures.
Online listings for both products have been removed, and SFA has issued advisories ordering all sellers to cease distribution immediately. Checks by The Straits Times found neither product available on major e-commerce sites as of Thursday evening.
Consumers who have purchased the products are advised not to consume them, and those with health concerns should seek medical attention.
SFA reminded the public to buy food and supplements only from verified and reputable sources, and to report suspicious sales via the SFA feedback portal at http://www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback.
