McDonald’s Fries and Coke as a ‘Migraine Cure’? Doctors Weigh In

October 23, 2025
in Health News, International Healthcare News, Lifestyle

Original article from LADbible, by Joe Harker, published 22 October 2025

A viral trend on social media has claimed that McDonald’s fries and Coke can relieve migraines better than medication. Many users have touted the fast-food combo as a “miracle fix,” but doctors are warning against relying on it as a treatment.

Medical Explanation
According to Dr. Myro, a medical educator, the temporary relief some experience may come from dopamine release triggered by the comfort of fast food, as well as caffeine in Coke, which can reduce migraine pain in the short term. Caffeine is also present in some over-the-counter headache medications, which adds plausibility to the perceived effect.

Expert Warning
However, neurologist Dr. Regina Krel cautioned that this supposed remedy can backfire. Excessive caffeine consumption can cause “rebound headaches” and sleep disturbances, both of which may worsen migraine symptoms over time. She advised migraine sufferers to choose electrolyte water for hydration and, if needed, to take caffeine in moderation — such as a cup of coffee instead of a sugary soda.

Healthier Alternatives
Dr. Krel suggested that a protein-rich, unprocessed snack combined with rest and hydration remains a safer and more sustainable approach. While fries and Coke may bring momentary comfort, she stressed that it’s not a medical solution and could exacerbate the problem if used habitually.

Bottom Line
Doctors agree that while the fast-food “cure” might give a quick dopamine and caffeine boost, it’s a short-term illusion rather than a real treatment. Sensible hydration and balanced nutrition still remain the best choices for migraine relief.
