A 92-year-old Australian doctor, Dr. John Levin, has become the country’s oldest new father after welcoming a baby boy with his 37-year-old wife, Lu Yanying, in early 2024. Levin, who specialises in anti-ageing medicine, says his goal is to stay alive long enough to see his son reach adulthood.
An Unconventional Love Story
- Levin met Lu — a linguistics lecturer — when he took Mandarin lessons after the death of his first wife of 57 years.
- They married in Las Vegas in 2014, initially without plans for children.
- During the COVID-19 lockdown, Lu reconsidered: “I thought to myself, if I lose him, I want a part of him. I wanted to have a child,” she told Herald Sun.
- Their son, Gabby, was conceived via IVF and born in February 2024.
- The couple is considering having more children.
His Other Children
Levin also has three adult children in their 60s from his first marriage. His eldest died five months before Gabby’s birth.
His Anti-Ageing Regimen
To achieve his goal of watching Gabby turn 21 one day, Levin uses the same longevity methods he prescribes to patients:
- Growth hormone injections for the last 10 years
- Daily gym sessions
- 2 hours of study followed by 6 hours of work
- Supplements including:
- Multivitamins
- Fish oils
- Antioxidants
Levin reflected that fatherhood in his 90s feels drastically different from his experience at age 28:
“It’s all so different now,” he shared.
